DCD is seeking a qualified professional with education in early childhood with experience in a child care setting. The right person will be responsible for giving morning breaks, lunch breaks, and planning periods to all full times teachers.

Schedule: Full Time

Position Summary

The Assistant Teacher will be responsible for giving morning breaks, lunch breaks, and planning periods for all full time teachers. He/she will be assigned a schedule to move from room to room covering for a full-time staff member on break/planning. He/she will assist in maintaining a positive learning environment conductive to the well-being of young children and will do activities with the children as directed by staff person leaving the room.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Enrichment activities scheduled as planned

2. Assist with classroom duties for every room assigned

3. Assist with classroom management

4. Maintain confidentiality

5. Be willing to gain more knowledge, experience, and training in the field of Early Childhood Development (a minimum of 20 hours annually)

6. Attend child care meetings/training when deemed appropriate

7. Assist in keeping the classroom clean

8. Follow lesson plans posted when substituting in classrooms

9. Maintain client, employee, and agency confidentiality

10. Other duties as designated by the Site Director and classroom Teacher(s)

Supervision

The Substitute Teacher will report to the Site Director. Classroom teachers will instruct the teacher as to activities and responsibilities during the time they are in the room

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Certifications:

1. Minimum requirement of a High-School Diploma/GED

2. Must obtain a minimum of a CDA within 18 months of hire

3. Minimum of 20 hours training required annually

4. Meet and maintain all state licensing requirements, accreditation criteria, and DCD policies

5. Know requirement for mandatory reporting child abuse

6. Have no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions for offenses relating to children or violence, and satisfactorily complete the required background check and drug testing

Physical Requirements

1. Can lift children assigned to your care and maintain classroom cleanliness.
