Ms Trista's Class - Early Preschool

What a year! This past year came with many obstacles, and we are all coming out on the other side troopers and learning more about our families and friends than we could have ever known. Being in the situation that we have been put in is not ideal, but the memories will always be there, and I hope you were able to make great memories. Children as young as they have obstacles as well. They have new milestones to reach each day, whether it is being born, crawling, walking, listening, or even learning to talk. They all overcome these and many more each day and year. Going into the next year, I want to work on those struggles and help them to succeed. It is great to learn ABC’s and how to count, but first and foremost, children need to know how important they are and how much we care for them.

When we listen to a child, it makes them feel important. If they want to share an opinion and they are told to keep quiet, or they are ignored, they begin to feel as though their feelings and opinions do not matter. This will have a negative impact on their self-esteem, but when children can effectively express themselves, they feel more worthy and that they matter. This is going to have a positive impact on their self-esteem. Children have a lot to say, so who is willing to listen to them? When we show them that they are important, then it is easier for them to become willing learners to help them succeed in the future.

When children are willing learners their brains are prepared and ready to take on the world. That could be counting to 10 or recognizing the letters of the alphabet. It could mean reading their first words or being able to control themselves when they feel upset or angry. When you try to teach a child who is uncomfortable and not confident, they feel unsure of themselves. If they think others will not accept them, they may not join in. They may let others treat them poorly. Children with low self-esteem feel unsure of themselves. High self-esteem helps children cope with mistakes. It helps children try again, even if they fail at first. As a result, high self-esteem helps children do better at school, at home, and with friends.

In the coming year, my goal is help mold a high self-esteem in each child in my class so that they feel confident when they begin to take on new challenges in the classroom. We will work on preparing their brains for confident learning and understanding and have fun in the process.
