Hello, Preschool 2 Families!
This year seems to be flying by pretty quickly. I hope that everyone enjoyed the snow break we had during the month of February. I loved hearing about how the children got to go sledding and make snowmen with the snow. I’m sure that was a fun experience for them, and it also gave them extra quality time with their families which I know they really enjoyed!
I wanted to say thank you to the families who participated in our Valentine’s Day party. Even though the week was a little abnormal in our schedule, the children got to experience what it is like to give something to someone else. They loved being able to pass out their valentine cards to their classmates.
February 19th was Play Dough Day, and boy, did we have a lot of fun exploring play dough!. The children have the choice to play with play dough whenever they want, but having everyone gather together to share the different characters or items that we made with our play dough using the cookie cutters was very fun. I can tell that a lot of our kids are used to making a gingerbread man either at home or they have made them before, because every single one of them made a gingerbread man out of their play dough. Playing with play dough provides many educational experiences for the children, whether it is helping them to strengthen their fine motor skills by rolling and forming in the dough, to expanding in their creativity and cognitive skills by trying to figure out what they can make with the dough. I highly encourage playing with play dough at home. We used a recipe online that was homemade Play dough, and the children loved it.
As we are about to enter into springtime, we will be discussing plants. We will talk about where plants come from, what is the difference between a vegetable and a fruit, how they grow, and what we can do to take care of plants. The children will have the opportunity to grow various plants while at school, and we will be discussing the stages a seed goes through. This is a fun experiment because it allows the children to get dirty and explore their natural environment. If you have a garden at home, I would love it if you could share with us some of the things you like to grow. You can send in pictures of you and your child working in the garden, or pictures of what you are growing at home. I know the children really love having the chance to share what they are doing at home, and having photos allows them to show their classmates exactly what they are trying to tell them.
