It’s finally spooky season! September was a month of growth for all of us. We grew in our classrooms with more friends joining in. We looked at all kinds of transportation from trucks to trains to planes. The class also learned about movement of different kinds of wheels. Back in August, we investigated the basics of sign language. In September, we continued sign language and added in social & emotional development.
What is social and emotional development, you might ask? "Social and emotional development is the change over time in a child’s ability to react to and interact with their social environment." At home, try to schedule play dates or even go to the park. Playing gives a child a chance to practice different social skills. They learn to acknowledge others’ feelings, play “nicely,” share, and resolve conflict.
A child’s experience in their earliest years affect how their brains work, the way they respond to stress, and their ability to form trusting relationships. During these years the brain undergoes its most dramatic growth, setting the stage for social and emotional development. The first five years of a child’s life can last a lifetime.
With the cooler weather coming in, we are encouraging parents to bring in extra warm clothes and light jackets for outside. We also ask parents to bring an extra pair of socks and shoes.
