Fall is Coming!

As Fall is approaching, what comes to mind is how it is a season of change. The leaves begin to change into a beautiful array of colors, then eventually fall off the trees. Our organization is also in a season of change. As you may have noticed, our name is now Ivy Learning Resource and Referral, and we are not only still serving North Central Oklahoma, but we have also added Northeast Oklahoma. Another change is that Kristine Abbott is now a center director at one of our sites, and we will be adding a Business Consultant to our team to help with the financial aspect of running a child care facility. . . Click Here UPDATES from your SOS Family Partnerships Families are the child's first teachers and are the link between the educational setting and home. A strong connection between child care personnel and families is critical for building a positive environment for young children and allowing children to feel more secure, confident, and self-assured. It is best for children when caregivers build relationships with families based on mutual trust, respect, and willingness to involve them as full partners. Everyone, but especially children, benefits when providers and families work together. . . Click Here Grandparents & Extended Family For many families, grandparents fill a critical need providing regular child care that is trusted, affordable, and accessible. In fact, 1 in 4 children under age 5 were cared for by grandparents while their parents worked or attended school. That’s the same number of children enrolled in formal child care programs! There are great rewards to these relationships, but the dynamics can be challenging to navigate. To support this growing group of caregivers, we developed tools and best practices to support professionals and multigenerational families. . . Click Here The Reading Corner! We have started a reading corner for our providers. Each month there will be three books that your Resource & Referral Team recommend. The books will be based on age groups: Infant/Toddler; Pre-School; and School-Age. We hope you enjoy our book choices and read many books to the children this month and all year around! . . Click Here QRIS Regional R&R: The Pyramid Model What is the Pyramid Model, and why are so many early childhood professionals in Oklahoma (and across the country) talking about it? It is a proven way to teach and support young children in understanding and managing their emotions, which helps children handle life’s tough situations with greater resiliency and hope. . . Click Here Scholars for Excellence in Child Care What Is the Scholars Program? The Scholars program awards scholarships to eligible child care professionals to complete coursework in the area of child development or early childhood education, as well as the Child Development Associate (CDA) and Certified Childcare Professional (CCP) Credential Assessment. These scholarships enable child care providers in Oklahoma to improve their skills through education, receive an educational stipend and continue the availability of quality child care in local communities. . .
